WHAT IS FAITH REALLY?
We live in a world where we want to have all the answers before taking a step. We want to know the path, calculate the risks, and know how everything will turn out.
But biblical faith does not work that way.
Faith is moving forward when God speaks to us, even when we do not have the complete picture. It is trusting the One who knows the way, even though we cannot see it yet.
Abraham is one of the greatest examples of this kind of faith. God asked him to leave his land and go to a place that He would show him.
Abraham was 75 years old. He had an established life, a family, and possessions. Yet he chose to leave what was familiar for what God had promised.
The Bible says:
“So Abraham departed as the Lord had instructed.”
Genesis 12:4
Abraham did not receive a complete map. He received a word from God.
And that was enough.
FAITH OBEYS
True faith does not only listen; it acts.
Abraham heard God and went. He did not wait to know every detail.
Many times, we want God to show us the destination first and then we will obey. But God may say to us:
“Trust Me. I will show you the way as you walk.”
Perhaps today God is calling you to step out of your comfort zone, begin something new, serve, give, or make a decision you have been putting off.
You do not need to have everything figured out.
Obey what God has already shown you.
Faith is demonstrated when we place our resources, our time, and our abilities at the service of God and others.
This was the case with George Müller, who began caring for orphaned children while trusting that God would provide. He did not need to see the final outcome before he began.
First, he believed. Then, he walked.
FAITH WAITS
Abraham also had to learn how to wait.
God promised him descendants as numerous as the stars in the sky, but Abraham and Sarah were elderly, and from a human perspective, it seemed impossible.
Yet:
“And Abraham believed the Lord…”
Genesis 15:6
Faith does not deny reality; it chooses to trust God above the circumstances.
Perhaps today you are waiting for an answer, restoration, provision, a job, healing, a child, or the fulfillment of a dream.
Do not confuse silence with absence.
God may be working even though you cannot see it yet.
Abraham waited, and eventually Isaac, the son of promise, was born.
It did not happen in Abraham’s time.
It did not happen in Sarah’s time.
It happened in God’s time.
Therefore, if you are waiting, do not abandon your faith.
FAITH SURRENDERS
After receiving Isaac, Abraham faced an even greater test. God asked him to take his son to Mount Moriah.
Isaac was the most precious thing Abraham had. He was the son of promise.
Yet Abraham was willing to surrender him.
When Isaac asked where the lamb was, Abraham answered:
“God will provide.”
And God provided.
Abraham found a ram caught in the bushes and called that place:
JEHOVAH-JIREH
The Lord Will Provide.
The question for us is:
What do you have on the altar today that is difficult for you to let go of?
It may be a dream, a relationship, a job, a project, a ministry, or anything that has begun to take the place that belongs only to God.
God wants to teach us that He is more trustworthy than anything we can hold in our hands.
When we surrender everything to God, we can say:
“Lord, if You gave it to me, I can also trust You enough to give it back to You.”
FAITH THAT MOVES MOUNTAINS
Abraham’s life teaches us three truths:
Faith obeys when it does not know the entire path.
Faith waits when the promise seems impossible.
Faith surrenders even what it loves the most.
Faith does not mean that we will never have fear, questions, or difficult moments.
It means that we will not allow fear to have the final word.
Perhaps today you have a mountain standing before you.
You do not need to see the entire path.
You need to trust the God who can see it.
🙏 PRAYER
Heavenly Father, teach me to have faith like Abraham.
Help me to obey when I do not know the entire path, to wait when I cannot see the answer, and to surrender to You what I love most.
Remind me that You are still working even when I cannot see it.
Today, I place my trust in You. You are my provider, my guide, and my hope.
Strengthen my faith and help me walk with You every day.
