A gentle answer turns away wrath, but a harsh word stirs up anger.
(Proverbs 15:1)
In our daily lives, it is easy to be carried away by emotions and end up in arguments. Many times, these conflicts arise from misunderstandings, wounded pride, or attempts to impose our own opinions. In the heat of the moment, we may think that if we are more forceful or raise our voice louder, we will come out “victorious.” However, the truth is that in an argument, no one wins.
Words spoken impulsively can hurt and leave wounds that sometimes take a long time to heal. Even small disagreements can turn into major divisions, both within families and among friends. But is it really worth it? The Bible teaches us to be peacemakers, following the example of Jesus, who—even in the face of offense and injustice—did not respond with anger, but with love and forgiveness.
When we choose to avoid a fight, we choose the path of peace. If we are patient and respond with gentleness, we can calm anger and prevent conflicts from escalating.
If you find yourself in a tense situation, remember this: forgiveness is more powerful than revenge. Avoid unnecessary arguments and strive to live in peace with everyone.
Bear with each other and forgive one another if any of you has a grievance against someone. Forgive as the Lord forgave you.
(Colossians 3:13)
Avoid arguments and live in peace
Choose silence instead of arguing. When you feel angry, take a deep breath and avoid impulsive words.
Be a peacemaker. Try to understand the other person and respond calmly, always seeking reconciliation and harmony.
Practice forgiveness daily. Remember the forgiveness you receive from Christ and extend grace in moments of conflict, bringing healing to hearts.
Prayer:
Lord, help me to be a peacemaker in the midst of conflict. Teach me to control my tongue and respond with love, even when I am provoked. Give me a forgiving heart, just as You forgive me. Help me to always choose peace, avoiding arguments and cultivating harmony in my relationships. Strengthen me to follow Your example, acting with grace and patience. Amen.
