Base text: Jonah 1–4
Introduction
The story of Jonah reminds us that God is a God of second chances.
Jonah was a prophet called by God to go and preach to the city of Nineveh, but instead of obeying, he decided to run in the opposite direction.
Many times we do the same thing: God speaks to us, corrects us, or calls us to something, but we prefer to ignore it or run away from His will.
Disobedience Has Consequences
Jonah ran away from God and boarded a ship headed for another destination.
However, his disobedience did not affect only him, but also the sailors who were traveling with him.
A great storm arose on the sea, and eventually Jonah was thrown into the water.
This teaches us that disobedience can bring consequences not only to our lives but also to those around us.
God’s Mercy Reaches Us
Even though Jonah had disobeyed, God did not abandon him.
The Lord prepared a great fish to swallow him, and there Jonah stayed for three days and three nights.
From that dark place, Jonah cried out to God and repented.
Even in the midst of our mistakes, God’s grace continues to pursue us.
God Gives Us Another Opportunity
After his repentance, God spoke to Jonah again and gave him a second opportunity to fulfill his mission.
This time Jonah obeyed and went to Nineveh.
The result was surprising: the entire city repented and sought God.
This shows that when we obey, God can transform lives through us.
Application
The story of Jonah leaves us with a powerful lesson:
We cannot run away from God.
God is merciful and patient.
He is always willing to give us a new opportunity.
Today may be the day God is calling you to return to Him.
📖 “Today is the day of salvation.”
Prayer
Lord Jesus,
I recognize that many times I have wanted to do my will instead of Yours.
Today I ask for Your forgiveness and thank You because You are a God of mercy and second chances.
Help me to obey You and to live according to Your purpose.
In Jesus’ name,
Amen.
Sincerely,
Pastor Guillermo Ayala
