Main Scripture:
“Then the mother of Zebedee’s sons came to Jesus with her sons and, kneeling down, asked a favor of him. ‘What is it you want?’ he asked. She said, ‘Grant that one of these two sons of mine may sit at your right and the other at your left in your kingdom.'”
— Matthew 20:20-21 (NKJV)
A Mother Always Wants the Best for Her Children
There is no doubt that a mother’s heart is full of dreams and desires for her children’s future. Just like the mother of James and John, who came to Jesus asking for the best for them, many mothers today continue to kneel in prayer, crying out for their children’s well-being, protection, and eternal destiny. Even when we don’t fully understand God’s plan, a mother’s love dares to ask, intercede, and dream big.
Lesson: Sometimes we ask without understanding the process, but God honors a heart that loves and believes. Ask with faith, but trust in the Father’s will.
Mothers Have a Faith That Moves
When Jesus responds, “You do not know what you are asking,” He is not rebuking her, but revealing that her request came with a price: suffering, service, and the cross. Yet that mother was willing to do anything to see her sons lifted in the Kingdom. That’s the faith of a mother — daring to dream and fight even without guarantees.
Reflection: Do you have the faith to believe in your children’s destiny, even when it seems impossible? A mother’s faith can open paths where none exist.
A Mother Is Willing to Let Go with Pain but with Faith
In Exodus 2:1–4, we read the story of Jochebed, the mother of Moses. Amid Pharaoh’s command to kill all Hebrew baby boys, she made the hardest decision of her life: to hide him for three months and then release him into the river, trusting that God would do the rest. And He did! God used that basket, that faith, and that pain to raise the deliverer of Israel.
Application: Letting go of children is never easy. Whether it’s daycare, school, college, or a move abroad, a mother’s heart aches… but it also trusts. What you release in faith, God will guard with power.
Mothers Are Not Alone — Family Is Involved
Moses’ sister, Miriam, was also there, watching from a distance. Aunts, grandmothers, older sisters — they are all part of God’s plan to protect, guide, and support the next generation. Never underestimate the impact a united family can have on a child or youth.
Invitation: If you’re an aunt, grandmother, sister, or close friend, get involved. God can also use you to make an eternal difference.
The Greatest Act of a Mother’s Love: Trusting God
Just like the pastor shared about his son who, at only 18, traveled to Panama as part of a group of future doctors, many mothers must also learn to let go, to trust, to pray, and to allow God to fulfill His purpose in their children. The journey may not look like what we dreamed, but if God leads it, it will be perfect!
Prayer:
Lord, thank You for mothers — for their unconditional love, their courageous faith, and their tireless prayers. Help us honor them, learn from their example, and trust, like they do, that You are in control of our children’s future. Give us the strength to let go when needed and the faith to believe You will take care of them. In Jesus’ name, amen.
Sincerely,
Pastor Guillermo Camiña
